There is something about this city that just makes me want to share everything with everyone. I will stand by our bagels, promote poutine, cherish the establishments, and make sure to give everything in between a try. I like good meals, delicious snacks, and satisfying late night eats. Bad service, and people who act like they hate their job on the floor or behind a counter don’t appease me. Everybody likes what they like, and everybody knows what they know. Sharing those opinions, memories, and stories are what makes a place special.

You may not agree with everything I say or write, and that’s ok. The important thing is that you’re reading, and if you’re reading, it probably means you care. You care about this city and will defend your point to the bitter end! So will I. Keep reading and enjoy the ride.

Who is Food Guy Montreal?

My name is Dustin Gilman and I have been a food lover since I was 16 years old. I first discovered my love for food while working at Cavallaro, an Italian bakery and specialty store on Sherbrooke St. For what I initially thought would be a part-time job while in school, actually turned out to be a 6 year eye-opening food experience. I learned about olive oils, balsamic vinegars, pastas, tomato sauces, traditional deli meats, and the list goes on. It was here where I also discovered a passion for cooking. After my tenure at Cavallaro, I put my culinary skills to work at M:BRGR where I started 2 weeks before they opened, and stayed for the next 8 months. I worked as a dishwasher, prep cook, garde manger (salads and desserts), fries station, and the grill. Today, I still work in food as a caterer for Cinq a Chef where we cook for all kinds of events for as little as 10 people and as large as 300.

I have an extraordinary passion for everything food including the business aspect of it, since I am a Marketing graduate from the John Molson School of Business. Working in food is my ultimate career goal. In the meantime, this blog is my avenue to the food world. Enjoy.
